Ruby on Rails Expert Programmer Needed in New York City

Location: New York, NY (Chelsea, area code 212)
Position Summary: An Internet startup company based in New York City is currently seeking an expert Ruby on Rails developer to work with our development team on Web 2.0-enabled BarterQuest website facilitating the cashless exchange of goods and services between individual consumers. You should have very strong Web 2.0 programming background, fun personality, good attitude, and good sense of humor. The company is working on some fundamental problems in computer science, specifically in machine learning, natural language understanding (NLU), fuzzy search, and large-scale information retrieval (IR). Although this will initially be a contract-employee position, there is a chance for it to evolve into a full-time role. You must be able to work on-site at our office in New York City, Chelsea, near Penn station.

Experience/Skills/Requirements: - 1-2+ years experience with Ruby on Rails & MySQL
- Prototype AJAX libraries and JavaScript development experience
- OOP experience
- HTML, CSS, XML-RPC/SOAP/Web Services experience
- MVC design patterns
- Comfortable working with UNIX based systems, preferably Linux
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Fun personality, good attitude, and good sense of humor

Education: B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience M.S. preferred

Web HTML/CSS/JavaScript Web Master / Coder

Position Summary:
An Internet startup company based in New York City is currently seeking an experienced web master / designer to work with our development team on Web 2.0-enabled BarterQuest website facilitating the cashless exchange of goods and services between individual consumers. The successful candidate will be responsible for work in development-engineering environment, leading the implementation of the website and working directly with graphic designers and web programmers. You should have very strong HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Flash background, fun personality, good attitude, and good sense of humor. Although this will initially be a contract-employee position, there is a chance for it to evolve into a full-time role. You must be able to work on-site at our office in New York City, Chelsea, near Penn station.

Experience/Skills/Requirements:
At least 3 years of WEB User Interface coding from creative graphic design to HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and Flash
Prefer 3+ years of hands on experience in design of Internet marketplace and commerce website
Detail-oriented and energetic personalities with a strong ability to work in a very fast-paced team-oriented environment.
Good interpersonal skills operating in a team environment.
Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Ability to research, absorb, and communicate new technologies as required for specific projects at rapid pace.

Specific technical areas include:
-HTML 4+, JavaScript, CSS a must (Flash a plus)
-AJAX experience a plus
-Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.

Expert UNIX/Linux C++ System Developer

Location: New York, NY (Chelsea, area code 212)

Position Summary:
JPM Global, Inc. is an Internet Startup Company based in New York City which is currently seeking a C++ developer to work with our team on the Web 2.0-enabled BarterQuest website (www.barterquest.com). This website will facilitate cashless exchange of goods and services between individual consumers. The project involves various fields, including natural language processing and data mining. Thed Bartering IR search engine employs summarization, morphologic & synonym expansion, spelling checker, phrase detection, etc.
You will be working on implementation of the bartering engine in C++ to facilitate various matching and classification algorithms. You should be an expert C++ Linux system programmer with recent experience in process/thread optimization, SQL & database optimization, and network programming. You will participate in the development of novel efficient application–specific algorithms for matching descriptions of items available for trade. Initial work will be focused on English language with future expansion to multilingual processing.
