Holistic Healing Coach
Hello, I am Linda Gertrude Means, Ph.D, CMT. I work as a holistic healing coach for people who would like help in working on their healing physically, emotionally, energetically, psychologically, and spiritually. My understanding of this work is based not only on experience with clients, but also my own journey in healing from two kinds of cancer in 1996-98, undergoing a process which transformed a sick, stressed, unfulfilled corporate research scientist into a happy, healthy, peaceful self-employed healer, writer and teacher. I set out on a path to find my healing at the deepest levels of my existence, which led me to healing work with Native Americans in New Mexico, training at the Esalen Institute in California, and frequent trips to Brazil to the healing center of John of God (where I have accepted their invitation to be an official group leader for visitors traveling there for healing). You can find my writing about the healing journey on my website:
Because of my personal history, I work a lot with people who have cancer, but I am happy to work with anyone in any condition. We can work together in addition to any medical treatment that you are receiving. We begin by talking about the nature of your situation and what dysfunctions you would like to correct, physically and otherwise. As a scientist and a healer I have a wide range of understanding about healing processes, from the chemical to the mystical, so we can discuss your healing in whatever terms make sense to you. We may do some bodywork (massage or shiatsu or other energy-clearing work) to help jump-start your healing and to help you experience some relief in your body and mind.
Bodywork provides an opportunity for quieting the mind, clearing the energy body, releasing old emotional burdens, and finding a place of peace and surrender, a place where your innate healing intelligence can rebalance your holistic ecosystem. The more you cultivate this healing consciousness, the more you heal, in every way.
You will find mental habits that continue to grab the reins and keep you stuck in an undesirable consciousness of fear, anger, insecurity, jealousy, or other unhealhful states of mind. Your repeated interruption of those states by frequently engaging in practices that activate a healing state of mind eventually dissolves those unhealthy patterns. Healing springs from your will and courage and fierce determination to transform your life, and from taking steps in that direction. You can find healers who can assist your process, like me, but ultimately the profound work is done by you, not by your helpers.
In order to find practices which you enjoy and do easily, we can explore many realms. Your personal practice can range from exercising your energy body (via qi gong, dance, yoga, acupressure, etc.), to drumming, to singing, to changing your relationship with food, to re-creating your home as a spiritual sanctuary, to making your own medicines with Chinese tonic herbs, to gratitude meditations, and to much more.
Spiritual and energetic healing practices from many worldwide ancient traditions provide a vast range of methods to work with. I was baptized Catholic and raised in the Episcopal Church, later becoming very involved in practices relating to Buddhism, Hinduism, Brazilian Spiritism, Native American, and so on. My spiritual life and my healing work employ practices from many religious traditions. All spiritual traditions tell the same fundamental story, though the message may be framed differently: See only love; be only love. Love is synonymous with a state of wholeness: healing. The health of your body reflects the extent to which you live this message.
