These low wattage nightlights can stay plugged in all day and reportedly just cost pennies worth of electricity per year. I don't know how MANY pennies that might be, but...
Seriously, these cast a gentle light in a dark room and are basically un-noticeable in the day. They don't heat up because there is no light bulb. Far from the world's brightest light, but if all you're looking for is somethig to give you a little reassurance in the middle of the night, it might very well suit your needs.
