Hi I'm new to this barterquest, what type of vanilla in exchange for bread? Please explain quantity as I'm not sure if I need so much at one time. Thanks.
I'd be interested in either beans or made vanilla extract. I make the bread on an as-needed basis since I have to grind the flour first (fresh whole-wheat flour is only really really good for about 2 weeks without refrigeration before the vitamins start to break down) and the bread doesn't taste fresh anymore after about a week. One loaf (9"x5") is worth about $3 in my reckoning based on the inputs and the amount of labour going in to it. I can make as many as 12 loaves in one go. They keep at least a week without refrigeration (although mine have never made it that far without being eaten!), longer WITH refrigeration, and will probably last a couple months in the freezer. I haven't tried freezing them though. One thing to consider though is shipping if you're not in the southern Michigan area... Seems like it wouldn't be worth it (at least to me) to ship them anywhere since the shipping would far exceed the actual cost of the bread.
As far as 50 being the quantity listed, I don't mean that 50 have to be traded all in one go, just that I'd be willing to make up to 50 for trade. As far as quantity/value then, ~$3 per loaf for as many loaves as you're interested in, although it's difficult to make more than 12 or so at one time.
