Tres Piedras is an old settlement at a crossroads (US 64 crosses US 285) in northwestern Taos County. There wasn't much mining in the area but there was lots of logging and cattle ranching, especially in the Tusas Mountains west of town. West of Tres Piedras is the Carson National Forest, east is US 64 through the Earthship Landing Zone and over the Taos Gorge Bridge and then into Taos. The eastern horizon is defined by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. There is more National Forest south of Tres Piedras on US 285 before you come to Ojo Caliente.

The RIO GRANDE RIVER GORGE is near these properties and you will cross it before entering Taos. Over time the Rio Grande River in this area has cut an Incredibly Deep Canyon. The GORGE RIVER BRIDGE Crossing the River is the 2nd Highest Suspension Bridge in the USA. We walked out on this bridge to look at the river far below and we watched the White Water Rafters make their way down the Canyon. This bridge is about 800 feet above the water level as you will see in the picture below.
This area is classified as High Desert Mesa and This Lot is at an Altitude of Over 8000 feet. There are 4 distinct seasons with an average annual rainfall of 12" and average annual snowfall of 35". The sun shines 70% of the possible hours of sunlight. For the WEATHER the average High Temperature in July is 87 with a Low of 50. The average High Temperature in January is 40 with a Low of 10 degrees. There is basically NO POLLUTION, the Sky is Clear, the Air is Fresh, and the Water is Clean.
The Ranchos De Taos Estates is located near to Carson National Forest. The directions are exit west from Highway 64, at SheepHerders Road and go about 2 miles up the mesa. The lot is described as Unit 1, Block 6, Lot 58.
A great improvement is to build a geodesic dome on each lot.
